Pitching & Presentation Tips for Entrepreneurs

About Us

Welcome to Pitching To Investors

Many years ago I attended a pitching competition run by the national venture capital association. It was a real eye opener. The entrepreneurs were absolutely demolished. Their pitches were simply not up to scratch and the venture capitalists showed no mercy.

These entrepreneurs were bright and had some really world class technology with excellent market potential. Their pitching skills let them down. I decided right then to put together pitching resources to help entrepreneurs make great presentations.

In the early days I had a couple of consultants who specialized in presentation skills. These consultants would work with our clients to get them ready to pitch to investors.

But it didn’t work. The pitches lacked ‘oomph’ and the structure was never quite right. They were not focusing on WIIFM (What’s In It For Me) from the investors’ perspective.

What was wrong?
Well, it was simple. The presentation skills needed for a great pitch are very specific. It is an area of expertise that requires an understanding of the venture capital game.

The consultants were great at presentation skills but didn’t understand what investors wanted to hear in a pitch. As much as we exposed these consultants to real pitches it just wasn’t happening.

Without good pitching skills our entrepreneurs had no chance of raising capital. So this was a high priority. I set about researching the elements of a good pitch.

I was inspired by Bill Reichert (Garage Technology Ventures) when I saw him present at a conference. Bill developed a formula for putting together pitches. I used Bill’s formula in my workshops and many entrepreneurs have been very happy recipients of lots of capital using variations of this formula. Bill Reichert’s formula gave me the starting point for developing our pitching material.

And it all moved on from there.

I have worked with over 970 companies to help them grow and expand. I’ve attended conferences, workshops and pitchfests and I’ve taken hundreds of people through pitching workshops.

This website is a resource for entrepreneurs who want to raise capital. It is early days so I’d love to hear what you’d like to see on this website. Please contact me gail@pitchingtoinvestors.com with your comments.

Happy Pitching
